The Twentsche Golfclub, founded in 1926, plays on the Twickel estate near Delden. The 18-hole course by the Irish architect Thomas J.A. Macauley opened in 1997 and was fully renovated in 2023; it runs between centuries-old beeches, hedgerows, ash trees and farmhouses.
The Twentsche Golfclub was founded in 1926 by Twente manufacturers, making it one of the oldest clubs in the Netherlands. Its first course was on the Drienerlo estate between Hengelo and Enschede, where nine holes opened in 1927, among the first ten golf courses in the country.
On the Twickel estate
The dream of playing on the Twickel estate near Delden only came true at the end of the twentieth century. The Irish architect Thomas J.A. Macauley laid out an 18-hole course there, carefully fitted into the Twente landscape, which officially opened in 1997. The clubhouse by Boy Wendrich opened at the same time, and around 2005 the neighbouring Pek farmhouse was converted into meeting and reception rooms. The course was fully renovated in 2023. It runs between centuries-old beeches, hedgerows, ash trees and farmhouses, with natural slopes and quick greens; par 72, 6,279 metres.
Tradition
The clubhouse holds a collection of trophies, some still presented at club competitions today. Since 1929 the club has organised the Twente Cup with PGA Holland, the oldest tournament for PGA professionals in the Netherlands. Green fee players with a handicap of 40 or lower are welcome and can always request a tee time, and brasserie Coulisse awaits after your round.
