Golf & Country Club Lauswolt in Beetsterzwaag was founded in 1964 as the first golf club in Friesland. Frank Pennink designed the first nine holes, Donald Steel the extension to 18 holes in 1995, and Mackenzie & Ebert updated the course in 2016. It lies mostly in woodland across some 100 hectares, with outlying holes and water along the Koningsdiep stream.
Golf & Country Club Lauswolt lies in Beetsterzwaag, tucked away in the Frisian woods. Founded in 1964 as the first golf club in Friesland, it has been on this site for sixty years. Together with the hotel on the estate, Lauswolt has again been named the best golf resort in the Netherlands by Leading Courses.
The course
Frank Pennink designed the first nine holes, Donald Steel the extension to 18 in 1995, and in 2016 the firm of Mackenzie & Ebert updated the course. It covers some 100 hectares, mostly woodland, with parkland and heathy birch woods, and because it borders the Koningsdiep stream there are some surprising outlying holes with water. The 18 holes, par 73 and 6,239 metres, run in two loops of nine with the clubhouse at the turn. The club itself asks what makes the course special: the always intimidating first tee shot onto a fairly narrow fairway, the calm of the Frisian landscape with no traffic noise, or the switch between woodland and the open stream valley.
As a visitor
Visitors with a handicap are welcome every day and request a tee time through the form on the website; until 3 pm groups are limited to three players. The green fee includes free range balls on the driving range. Restobar Birdy's & Bites serves food and drink, and in the evenings and at weekends it also sells green fees. The Lauswolt Open, for professionals and top amateurs, is played here every year.
