Golfclub Grevelingenhout lies beside the Grevelingenmeer lake, about three kilometres from Bruinisse in Zeeland. The course covers more than 52 hectares of former farmland and woods, where, as the club puts it, the salty sea air mixes with the scent of chestnut blossom.
The course
Construction began on 1 July 1988 to a design by Donald Harradine, also the architect of Golfclub Capelle. The club describes its 18 holes as a parkland course with plenty of water: par 72 and 6,151 metres. There are several doglegs that reward thoughtful play, and when the ground is dry and firm the ball runs on and the water comes into play sooner. The 9th and 18th share a double green. The greenkeepers pay close attention to the flora and fauna around the course, and there is also a 9-hole par 3 course.
Around the course
The brasserie looks out over the double green. Its kitchen uses local Zeeland produce, and coffee naturally comes with a bolus, the local pastry. There is a fitting studio with an indoor practice green and a golf shop, and the academy aims eventually to have a professional available seven days a week. Visitors are welcome every day and can book up to seven days ahead. The mild climate by the lake makes the course appealing outside the main season too.
