De Goese Golf lies near Goes, on farmland that still grew potatoes and sugar beet in the late 1980s; the course was built in the early 1990s. Donald Steel and Hans Hertzberger designed the park-like 18 holes, with nine holes in the middle and the other nine around them. Water from the Oosterschelde comes into play on more than ten holes.

De Goese Golf lies near Goes, less than a kilometre from the Oosterschelde National Park. In the late 1980s this was still farmland growing potatoes, onions, sugar beet and lucerne; in the early 1990s the course was built on almost 80 hectares of it.

The course

Donald Steel and Hans Hertzberger drew up the Championship Course. The layout is classic, with nine holes in the middle and the other nine around them. It is par 72 and 6,269 metres long, which the club says puts it among the longer courses in the Netherlands. Water flowing in from the Oosterschelde comes into play on more than ten holes. The fairways are wide, the greens large and full of slope, and every hole has one or more strategically placed greenside bunkers. From the 12th tee the Oosterschelde is only 800 metres away.

Around the course

There is also a 9-hole par 3 course. The driving range has TrackMan, which also lets you play well-known courses virtually, and PGA professionals teach. Brasserie Meer, with a large terrace over the course, serves Zeeland oysters, lobster and pizzas from a stone oven, among other things.
