De Woeste Kop lies in the Smitsschorre nature area on the edge of Axel, in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. The park-like 18-hole course runs between creeks and woods and borders Zeeland polders with dykes and poplars; the club is improving it to a plan by the architect Bruno Steensels. The club was founded in 1983 and moved here in 1988.
Golfvereniging De Woeste Kop was founded in 1983 and spent its first years in the De Braakman recreation area. That spot was known as De Woeste Kop, the wild headland, because the weather there could be rough, and the name came along when the club moved in 1988 to the Smitsschorre nature area on the edge of Axel, in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
The course
The 18-hole course, par 72 and 6,071 metres, holds A status and GEO certification. On Leading Courses it ranks in the Dutch top 30 and first in Zeeland. It is a park-like course among creeks and woods, bordering Zeeland polders with dykes and poplars. The holes are varied, with some narrow fairways, strategically placed bunkers, water and doglegs. The club is improving the course further to a plan by the architect Bruno Steensels, and members can adopt a hole and give it extra care.
