Golfclub de Semslanden in Gasselternijveen lies on the border of Groningen and Drenthe. Its 18-hole course has two loops; Hondsrug sits on sand in Drenthe's wooded, hedged landscape, while Boerveen leans towards the Hunze valley and the Groningen peatlands and is more open. The first nine were completed in 1989 to a design by Eschauzier & Thate, and Gerard Jol drew the second nine.
Golfclub de Semslanden lies near Gasselternijveen, on the border of Groningen and Drenthe. Its position between two landscapes gives the course two faces.
Two loops
The 18 holes are made up of two loops. Hondsrug sits on sand in Drenthe's wooded, hedged landscape. Boerveen leans towards the Hunze valley and the Groningen peatlands and is more open. The first nine were completed in 1989 to a design by Eschauzier & Thate; Gerard Jol drew the extension. The course plays to par 72 and 6,302 metres. Wildlife zones line the fairways, and thanks to its setting the course is almost always playable, on summer greens all year. The starting loop changes every week.
Golf for everyone
De Semslanden has more equipment for golfers with disabilities than any other club in the northern Netherlands. Players who struggle to walk can borrow a golf scooter, and those who cannot stand unaided can play in a Paramotion, an electric buggy whose seat raises them upright. There is a para-golf drop-in every Wednesday, with buddies on hand. There is also the 9-hole Drieveld par 3 course, a partly covered driving range, putting and chipping greens and a pro studio for video analysis. The restaurant, with two long communal tables, has the feel of a corner café.
