Golfbaan Martensplek lies in Tiendeveen in Drenthe, between Hoogeveen and Westerbork, and has been in play since 1991. The course is surrounded by the Goudplevier nature reserve and borders land managed by Het Drentse Landschap.

The course

The 18-hole course holds A status, par 72 and 6,037 metres. It has a park-like character, with plenty of water and long views. According to the club it looks easy at first glance but demands everything of the player: accuracy and precision are essential. Tee times are eight minutes apart, and you can start on the 1st or the 10th.

Easy to join

Martensplek has no buy-in and no admissions committee and charges only a small joining fee, which the club says makes it far more accessible than most. The emphasis is on enjoying the game together. You can practise to your heart's content on the two-tier driving range and the par 3 course. The clubhouse is relaxed, and there is a hotel on site, so you can make a golf weekend of it. Visitors with handicap 54 always book a tee time, up to a week and a half ahead.
