Golfclub Landgoed De Compagnie lies on the edge of Veendam, in a nature area of some 100 hectares. Gerard Jol designed the course in two phases; the first nine holes were laid out as a woodland course in 1990, and the more open second nine followed in 2006. Water, changes in elevation and large, contoured greens guarded by bunkers shape the play, and summer greens are in use all year.
Golfclub Landgoed De Compagnie lies on the edge of Veendam, in the heart of the Groningen countryside. The course covers a nature area of some 100 hectares where, according to the club, you hear birds rather than traffic or aircraft, and deer and pheasants cross the fairways.
Jol, twice
Gerard Jol designed the course in two phases. The first nine holes were laid out as a woodland course in 1990, and the second nine followed in 2006 with a more open character, a contrast that suits the Groningen landscape. Its trademarks are the many strategically placed water hazards, the changes in elevation and the large, heavily contoured greens guarded by bunkers. From the back tees it measures 6,295 metres, par 72. The club warns that this is not a course for a quick handicap cut. It is generously laid out, and summer greens are in play all year.
As a visitor
De Compagnie is a members' course where guests are welcome; book a tee time online in advance. The green fee includes a coffee or tea, and there are nine-hole packages with lunch or a glass of wine in the brasserie. Besides the 18 holes there is a par 3 course, a driving range and practice greens.

Noord-Nederlandse Golf & Country Club
The Noord-Nederlandse Golf & Country Club started out in 1950 on the airfield at Eelde and has played on the De Poll estate in Glimmen since 1954. Sir Guy Campbell designed the first nine; Frank Pennink extended the course to 18 holes in 1984, and Donald Steel refined it further after that. Narrow fairways run past ponds, wooded banks, old trees and rhododendrons, and the 1913 villa serves as the clubhouse.
