The Edese Golf Club plays at Papendal near Arnhem, on a wooded 18-hole course that has been much improved over the years, including a professional irrigation system. Guests are welcome.
The Edese Golf Club plays at Papendal, in the wooded, hilly landscape of the southern Veluwezoom between Arnhem, Oosterbeek and Ede. The course is surrounded by woods, avenues and meadows and fits naturally into the landscape.
From an idea to eighteen holes
The story begins in 1977, when Egbert Mesu discovered golf in Scotland and came home enthusiastic. With a fellow golf lover, Jan Lindhout, he looked into building a public course in the municipality of Ede. From 1986 a new committee pushed for expansion to 18 holes. After talks with the council and the sports and golf federations, the go-ahead came in 1991, and in 1993, exactly fifteen years after the club was founded, the course as it is today was finished, along with a new clubhouse. It has been much improved since, including a professional irrigation system, and Papendal was recently added to the club's name to reflect its location.
The club
The club has around 900 members, a modern clubhouse and extensive practice facilities, including a covered putting green. From the terrace of restaurant De Hofmeester you look out over the 1st and 18th holes and the woods around them. Green fee players are welcome from 1 pm and can book up to ten days ahead.
