The Wassenaarse Golfclub Rozenstein has an 18-hole course and a par 3 course with practice facilities. Green fee players play on weekday afternoons.
The Wassenaarse Golfclub Rozenstein takes its name from the farm of the same name where roses were grown for the perfume industry until 1897, on the land the course now occupies. The history of the fields goes back to the second half of the seventeenth century.
From roses to golf
In the 1980s golf took off, and Wassenaar wanted a second course alongside the Haagsche. The Stichting Openbare Golf Wassenaar was set up on 25 October 1983, the golf club on 4 September 1984, and a month later the council approved the construction of nine holes: today's Zuidbaan. In early 1990 a chance arose to expand across the Kokshornlaan. In 1991 the club bought 18 hectares of bulb fields, and in 1992 the second nine, today's Noordbaan, were laid out there. In 1993 the clay layer of the Zuidbaan was turned over to bring the sand to the surface for better drainage, and by August 1996 all 18 holes were in play.
