From Westend to the Wannsee

The club traces its roots to the Berlin Golf Club, founded in 1895 by British and American diplomats on a former racecourse in Westend, and calls itself the oldest golf club in Germany. When that ground was sold for housing, members financed a new course near the Wannsee, which opened on 26 May 1926. The club credits C.S. Butchard, who planned 18 holes in 1913 and 1914, and Karl Hoffmann, whose plans were built in 1926 and who added nine holes at the Stölpchenweg in 1930. After the Second World War the American forces took over the 18 holes and ran them as their own club until after the fall of the Berlin Wall; the club regained the Stölpchensee land at the end of 1950 and reopened it in 1953.

Narrow fairways under old trees

The championship course measures 6,016 metres from the white tees and plays to par 72. The club describes varied, narrow fairways between old trees and rolling hills that are unusual in the flat Brandenburg countryside. The 1st is rated the hardest hole, and the club counts the 10th, a par 3 of more than 200 metres, among the toughest par 3s in the region. The 9-hole short course (par 31) has five par 3s, including the 221-metre 2nd. In 2023 the club received the Golf & Natur certification in gold.

Guests play on weekdays and book their tee time by phone. The green fee includes balls on the range, which has 7 covered and 13 open bays. Wannsee is a walking course without carts for hire, and a new clubhouse with a restaurant and two terraces was completed in summer 2025.
